Hi Sam
I am taking prescription medications for various medical problems and was wondering whether there are any oils I should definitely avoid and whether it is better to use oils in burners rather than through massage or in a bath. I do use lavender quite a bit and orange.
Thanks.

Dear Visitor
The use of essential oils can depend on what medical problems you have and what medication you are on. First and foremost, check with your GP that it is ok for you to continue. Some essential oils can increase the speed at which medication is used within the body. It may be advisable for you to visit a qualified Aromatherapist, who can assess your medical situation and give you advice about oils that will not interfere with your medication. Always check any safety data that the oil has. It is best to check with more than one source. If you are unsure about whether an essential oil is suitable for you to use, it is probably a good idea to use the oil in a burner, and avoid skin contact, until you are able to get professional advice regarding your medical problems..
Lavender and orange essential oils should both be ok for you to use. Lavender is a good all round oil, but take care if you suffer from low blood pressure and avoid in pregnancy. Orange is non-toxic and non-sensitizing (sensitivity to product) but it is photo-toxic so avoid the sun for 24 hrs after application. I hope this advice is of use to you.

Hi Sam
Thank you for your reply and yes it was useful.
I will take your advice and check with my doctor when I next see him. I have only ever used oils in a burner but I wondered whether lavender oil in the bath would help with sleep as that has always been a problem for me, hence my question to you. Better to check first and stay safe.
